Soto's Wood Stain Touch Ups are available in 9 different colors, as well as in our Furniture Repair Kit (contains 7 colors) and our set of 5 Wood Stain Touch Ups.
- Test your color: Ensure you have the right color by testing the stain on a discreet area prior to completing your project. In a discreet area, sand off a small amount (approx. 0.25” x 0.25”) of coating down to the bare wood. Apply 1 to 2 strokes of stain to the bare wood, wait 5-10 minutes until dry, then evaluate the color match. If the color does not match, please contact us at hi@getsoto.com for suggestions.
- Clean surface with mild detergent and remove any flaking stain or wood.
- Sand rough or raised areas with 120 grit sandpaper and remove dust.
- Fill any holes, cracks or grooves with a stainable wood filler prior to staining. Ensure wood filler is thoroughly dry before staining.
- Shake bottle for at least 10 seconds to thoroughly mix up the stain.
- Apply stain over defect only, attempting to minimize overlap with existing coating. If overlap occurs, gently wipe excess stain with a damp cloth while it’s still wet. Dry for 30 minutes. For a darker finish, apply additional coats, drying to touch in between. For a more transparent finish, mix with water.
- Apply Clear Touch Up (sold separately) over the stain once dry to match the finish of the surrounding surface (matte, satin, semi-gloss, etc.). This will deliver an appearance that mimics the existing coating, effectively disguising the defect completely.
