- Don’t push down on the sander. Let its weight do the work to avoid gouging or getting marks on your surface.
- Move very slowly, about 1 inch per second.
- Work your way slowly through the grits. Don’t skip a step to save buying sandpaper. (A good rule of thumb is 50% more each step: 80 grit, then 120, 180, 240, and 320. Your first grit shapes/flattens the material, every other grit just gets rid of the scratches from the prior grit.)
- Clean your piece between grits, to get rid of all the dust and dirt (our Tack Cloths comes in very handy for this!)
- Change your sandpaper when needed. Don’t be stingy.
