Yes! All of our Wood Stain Touch Ups are compatible with each other and can be blended to fine-tune the color. In fact, our Furniture Repair Kit with 7 colors of wood stain includes a mixing cup, to create an even closer match if needed. We offer a comprehensive range of colors, but if the desired color is in between two of our colors, you can certainly mix them. Of course this method will require a bit of trial and error, but you’ll likely be able to get very close to your match.
Here is some helpful information about that:
- ALWAYS mix outside the bottle rather than changing the entire bottle. (Once you change it, you can't undo it, so it's best to work with only a small amount, so you can start over or add more of the original color if you got the altered paint too light or too dark.)
- Rinse one of the brush heads with water and mild soap to use with the "new" color.
- Pour a small amount of the first color onto a tray, then incrementally add the second color to it. "Incrementally" is key! Go slowly, and test to see if it's the right color. If not, add a bit more, then test. Repeat until you find your match.
- Use your clean brush to apply the "new" stain color to the defect.
If you need for the Soto Wood Stain to be more transparent, you can mix it with a little bit of water. As with mixing the colors, ALWAYS mix outside of the bottle, and go slowly, adding it incrementally, such as a single drop of water for a small amount of stain, testing to see if you get the desired result.
We make no claims of our stains being compatible with other brands, because we don't know the ingredients of other brands. Soto Wood Stain Touch Ups are water-based, so it is possible they are compatible with other water-based stains. We definitely recommend NOT mixing it with oil-based stains, because they almost certainly will not mix well.
